Why your split photo might not line up
Instagram shows the same post two different ways. Toggle between them to see what the profile grid hides.
On your profile grid, Instagram shows every post as a 3:4 tile. For a 1080 × 1350 post, the tile is about 1013 px wide, so roughly 34 px is hidden on each side.
That’s why a split panorama can show thin “seams” where detail disappears. Our Instagram grid maker lets you cut tiles at 3:4 (seamless on the profile) or 4:5 (full in the feed), whichever you care about more.
Posting a grid without mistakes
- Download all tiles. They’re named
post-01-of-09.jpg,post-02-of-09.jpgand so on. - Post them one at a time, in number order, starting with 01. Don’t use a carousel: each tile must be its own post.
- Post the whole set in one sitting. Anything you post in between shifts every tile one place.
- Want a row of three to stay together later? Always post in multiples of three from then on.
Questions
How do I split a photo for my Instagram profile grid?
Choose a photo, pick how many rows (1–6; Instagram profiles are always 3 wide), move the crop, then download all tiles. Post them in number order, tile 1 first. The last one you post appears top-left.
Should I use 3:4 or 4:5 tiles?
Since Instagram switched profile grids to 3:4 tiles, 3:4 tiles line up seamlessly on your profile, but show thin bars in the feed. 4:5 tiles look perfect in the feed, but about 34 px is hidden on each side on the profile. Pick whichever view matters more.
Why is tile 1 the bottom-right piece?
Instagram puts your newest post in the top-left of your profile. So the bottom-right tile must be posted first and the top-left last.
Will the image lose quality?
Tiles are cut from your original at full resolution. If a tile is narrower than 1080 px, Instagram will upscale it; the tool warns you when that happens.
Can I split for a carousel instead?
